Using a thermostat with the wrong opening temperature affects fuel economy, emissions, and engine warm-up characteristics. The manual specifies the correct opening temperature and how to test the thermostat by heating it in water with a thermometer.
Bleeding Procedure
After draining and refilling the cooling system, air must be purged from the system. The manual specifies the bleed procedure and any bleed screws to open. Modern engines with complex coolant passages (particularly transverse engines) can trap air pockets that cause hot spots and overheating even when the coolant reservoir appears full. Service Intervals
The manual lists coolant replacement intervals. OAT and HOAT coolants typically last 5 years or 150,000 km. Traditional IAT coolants need replacement every 2-3 years or 40,000-60,000 km. Overdue coolant loses its corrosion protection, and the additive package depletes even if the coolant looks fine visually. Chemical test strips can measure corrosion protection remaining.
